"Socialism can only arrive by bicycle" - Jose Antonio Viera Gallo
Socialism - Good or Bad?
Socialism is what the Russian Revolution was all about. Without the 'seduction' of the thought of the world run by socialists, the leaders at that time would have never revolted against the previous system. Leaders such as Stalin and Trotsky wanted socialism in their country as they believed the country could be run efficiently and produce effectively with the people and the state having all of the economic value and resource power (socialism. 2013.). In Animal Farm, George Orwell wanted to show that socialism has never, and probably never, work to create a sustainable society. Orwell wanted to show his readers, through Animal Farm, that everyone in society will never be treated as equal under a communist, socialistic rule.
Evidence of this in Orwell's novel is when the revolution first took place when the animals overthrew Jones and kicked him out of the farm. At that point, every single animal, big or small, smart or dumb, was being treated equally (George Orwell, Animal Farm).
In the story, weeks passed where the animals where happy with each other and their lives. The pigs then took it into consideration that they needed to have rules to follow otherwise there will be disorder and chaos if any issues arise. After the rules had been put into effect and life continued on for the animals, the pigs kept on reaping in the rewerds. Socialism demands for an equal society where everything is shared and evenly distributed among the community but the pigs apparently did not get the message (George, Orwell. Animal Farm.). The pigs took the best mils, the ripest fruit and all of the eggs and left the straw for the other animals. The pigs made excuses such as needing the food for their brains so that they could run the farm properly and effectively so that it won't go back to the previous owners rule (Jones) etc. The other animals bought it and the pigs continued to feast on the fuits of the other animals' hard labour.
George Orwell has put these examples into this book to mirror exactly what happend in the Russian Revolution. George Orwell, through the actions of the leaders of Animal Farm, has proven that there will never be a livable, sustainable socialistic society due to the fact that over time the human nature will dominate.
